Residential Deconstruction

Deconstructing homes comes naturally to GreenLynx, and most materials have a readily available market. We find that homes over 1,500 square feet tend to be win-wins for the homeowner finances and the environment. Smaller projects need to be weighed carefully in order to preserve the best materials while staying within much tighter budgets.  We aim to fit in seemlessly within your project timeline. The earlier in the process we can be involved, the better both the understanding of our processes and the outcome of our work will be.



Initial Consultation

We first schedule a 60- to 90-minute consultation on site. During our walk-through we:

  • take photos of your project
  • establish the scope of work and the materials to be either donated or removed for resale
  • answer any questions you might have about the process

After our walk through, we send your scope of donation and photos to an appraiser who will contact you with their proposal and estimated donation value. If you have existing plans available, it makes the bid process much more precise, and can certainly be helpful in the appraisal process.

We aim to assess whether a donation or resale is the best course of action in regards to the  materials that can be reused given your budget.
We can also assist with the following:

  • Recommend materials for reuse in your future build out
  • Renovation planning for reuseable materials during occupancy?
  • Design for reuse – choosing materials that will be reuseable in their next life
  • Tax – deduction opportunities and information
  • Charitable donations
  • Resale of items from the site to benefit your bottom line and reduce project costs
  • Resale of items integrated into our costs




Deconstruction Services

Pre-Deconstruction: We can submit a comprehensive bid for reuse and recycling services for your residential projects.


During Deconstruction: We assign a project manager to work with your general contractor or project management team, and they coordinate our crew which:

  • deinstalls reuseable fixtures, appliances, mechanical systems, finishes and lumber
  • prepare materials for proper transport to avoid breakage
  • coordinate with receiving end users and a moving company, if needed

We have various for-profit and non-profit partners that receive our materials whom we have chosen for their integrity and most effective reuse of the materials. We do not believe in removing materials for reuse if they are just going to be recycled on the receiving end. It is a waste of our time and our clients time and money. We take pride in our work, and work to ensure that the materials we remove for reuse do indeed see a next life in their current form.

If you require Union labor, we have several partners that we work with who are able to salvage materials for reuse, and work efficiently and effectively at saving materials.


Donation or Resale?

We currently operate both as a facilitator of donations for non-profits, and take materials for resale to reduce your project costs. Generally the tac deductions available through donations create the best financial scenario, but we are happy to consider projects for resale when the budget makes sense for both our company and the homeowner. We often find resale of lumber is best if you have a pre-1950’s small house.  


Is Deconstruction right for your project?

To determine now whether deconstruction is right for you:

  • homeowner accepts that deconstruction takes longer than demolition
  • homeowner is able to take a significant tax deduction OR
  • home has highly valuable materials that can offset the cost of deconstruction without a tax deduction
  • homeowner sees the value in saving materials for reuse versus landfilling

Once you choose to pursue deconstruction, we have a simple tool you can use to assess whether deconstruction will work for you. You’ll need the bid from us and an appraisal value from the Appraiser.
